David advises businesses on intellectual property protection strategies and manages the process of securing and enforcing rights. Key aspects of his practice are strategy advice and portfolio management.

David’s expertise includes all aspects of patent and trade mark law, including freedom to operate advice, protectability, preparing filing strategies and prosecution. He has completed due diligence projects for vendors and purchasers, advised companies raising capital from angel investors and venture capital firms, and developed intellectual property strategies to maximise return from an exit strategy.

In his spare time, David plays the saxophone in several bands around the North Island. He is also actively involved in the arts community in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.

Able to practice in both trade mark and patent laws, David has a highly sought-after skill set. He has background in chemistry having a Master of Science (Chemistry). However, his patent practice encompasses a wider range of areas including: chemistry, medical products, material science, and mechanical and process engineering.

In addition, David also advises clients on intellectual property strategy development and implementation. This has included working with companies in relation to medical products, amphibious vehicles, renewable energy, agritech, bio-genomics and genetics, and Universities and Research Institutions working in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

His trade mark experience includes the alcohol, food and beverage, consumer goods, fashion, and engineering industries.
