Patent Secretary – Christchurch

Full-time permanent position

This is an exciting time to be joining James & Wells.  The firm is rapidly expanding in New Zealand and Australia, and we are looking for a junior secretary to support our Patent Team, specialising in patent and design law.

While the position will be based in our Christchurch office, the role will provide support to the national team as well as within the Christchurch office as we expand our professional team.

You will be responsible for, amongst other things:

  • the preparation of a wide range of documents (including preparing patent documents, applications and invoices);
  • file and diary management of multiple deadlines in Australia, New Zealand and internationally; and
  • administration tasks including electronic filing and database management.

Your experience, qualification and attributes

You will have administration skills and a willingness to learn.  Secretarial experience would be favourable, but is not essential.

Other personal qualities that may give you an edge include:

  • ability to adapt;
  • being a fast learner;
  • able to prioritise and manage your time;
  • a sense of initiative; and
  • work well in a team.

You’ll also need to be cool under pressure, think laterally, demonstrate an attention to detail, and give spelling and grammar the respect they deserve.
