We are looking for an intermediate lawyer or Associate to join our Trade Marks team, based in our Newmarket, Auckland office.

About James & Wells

We expect you will do your own research on us.  You will find that James & Wells is one of Australasia’s leading independently owned intellectual property (IP) firms.  We are a “full-service” IP firm.  Our partners, lawyers, and patent and trade mark attorneys advise on all types of contentious and non-contentious IP matters in New Zealand, Australia and internationally, for local and international clients active in a broad range of industries and sectors.

Our significant expertise and depth of experience has been recognised many times over the years, including most recently when the firm won “IP Specialist Law Firm of the Year” in 2018.

What your research won’t tell you is what it is like to work for us.  We strive to have a workplace where you can grow and feel a sense of belonging.  We build long-standing relationships with our clients.  We offer a fast-moving, quality-driven environment. If this strikes a chord with you, we would love to hear from you.

Your experience, qualifications and attributes

Ideally you will be a registered trade mark attorney, or a solicitor with experience in IP law and qualified to practise law in New Zealand.  The role would also suit lawyers with a corporate and commercial legal experience background who want to broaden their skills and develop expertise in IP law.

We have great clients across a variety of industries that you will enjoy working for in a team that is motivated and forward thinking. You will also have opportunity to contribute to the growth of the team through business development and by supporting the development of junior staff.

We are looking for an intelligent, articulate person with excellent work practices, who is self-driven to achieve.

How to apply:

If you would like to join us, please apply via SEEK with a cover letter and current CV, or enquire to Rebecca Pennell, HR Manager on or 09 914 6740.

Only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply for this position.
