About Joseph

Joseph is a New Zealand and Australian patent attorney having a particular focus on mechanical engineering, electronics and software-related technology. He provides useful advice on issues such as patentability, freedom to operate (FTO) and infringement. Joseph regularly prepares new patent applications with both a New Zealand and global focus, advises clients through the examination process (patent prosecution) and has significant experience defending patent applications against oppositions by third parties.

Joseph also has a good understanding of what is involved in product development, having been seconded to a global medical equipment company in Sydney where he spent several months working directly with engineers to identify inventive concepts in new products, preparing patent applications to protect them and advising on issues such as freedom to operate.

Outside of the office, Joseph is quite the adrenaline junkie, enjoying mountain biking, snowboarding or just about anything with speed. When he’s keen for a rest he enjoys tinkering in the garage on his car or around the house.

Experience

His previous experience as a Design Engineer saw Joseph designing mechanical devices and parts for pneumatic and electronic systems. Having experience with 3D modelling and producing manufacturing drawings for clients, Joseph is adept when it comes to understanding new products and inventions, as well as thinking outside the square to overcome obstacles.

He has practical experience working with steel and aluminium fabrication and machine operation and repair, which gives him first-hand understanding of engineering challenges and potential solutions.
