Carrick specialises in all areas of branding, trade mark law and practice, with an extensive client base covering a wide range of areas, including the natural products, pharmaceutical, personal care, food, beverage and dairy industries, transport, education, and finance, insurance and legal sectors. He heads the firm’s ‘Food & Beverage Innovation’ team and leads the firm’s natural products focus group.

Within the food and beverage sector, Carrick advises many top brands, including Yealands, Goodman Fielder, Open Country, Cookie Time and Nuzest.

In his spare time, Carrick enjoys spending time with family and cycling.

Previously a Chartered Accountant with a top accounting firm, Carrick has extensive experience working in the financial industry. This experience has provided a deep understanding of the commercial drivers and needs of clients in the financial services and banking industries. Such knowledge is invaluable when assessing and advising on intellectual property strategies in these sectors.

Prior to joining James & Wells, Carrick worked in-house for Rover Group Limited in the UK, as well as for one of the UK’s leading patent and trade mark attorney firms, Keltie.

Carrick is recommended by the World Trade Mark Review 1000 for prosecution and strategy, with judges commenting “Carrick Robinson comes from a tax background and is a fountain of knowledge on IP valuation and taxation; however, his trade mark practise is extremely broad and his client base correspondingly diverse.” Carrick is also ranked as a trade mark expert by Asia IP Experts and Best Lawyers.

A contributing author to Brookers’ Text on Intellectual Property Law in New Zealand, Carrick has commented on the subject of trade mark law and practice.
