About Adam

Adam is highly regarded in the fields of mining, energy, medical devices and consumer products. As an experienced patent attorney with an extensive background in mining and software engineering, Adam’s services are in demand by national and multinational companies seeking insightful and commercially relevant IP advice.

His practice involves assisting large multinational corporations with the implementation of their IP protection strategies in Australia and New Zealand and managing large international patent portfolios for significant Australian corporations.

Adam has acted as the lead attorney in a number of Australian Federal Court patent matters and has been involved in almost 100 patent opposition matters before the Australian Patent Office. His impressive track record is evidenced by his recognition as an Australian IP Star in the MIP rankings for several years running.

Experience

Adam joined the James & Wells Patents Team in December 2020 from one of Australia’s largest intellectual property firms, where he was a Principal and in charge of a national Engineering/ICT practice involving 30 patent attorneys.

Adam has more than 20 years’ experience drafting patent specifications and prosecuting patent applications before IP Australia, IPONZ, the USPTO, the EPO the JPO and KIPO. He has particular expertise in opposition proceedings before the Australian Patent Office having been involved in around 100 opposition matters in the mechanical area.

Adam is regularly involved in assisting manufacturers assess freedom to operate risk in densely populated patent fields and in providing IP due diligence for merger and acquisition activities acting on behalf of vendors and purchasers.

Adam is a fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and is also a past member of the Council of Intellectual Property Attorneys.
