About Samuel

Samuel is a registered Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney with expertise in electronic, software and mechanical inventions, as well as specialist expertise in the gaming sector.

Samuel’s software development background includes embedded software projects, as well as developing electronic test fixtures. Samuel’s software expertise has primarily been in C, C# and JAVA. He is an experienced game developer, with recent experience developing on the Unity engine.

As a game developer, Sam has a detailed understanding of the unique issues game developers may face when it comes to protecting their IP, and he can guide developers through the steps they need to take to ensure their gaming assets are protected and commercialised.

Samuel’s product development experience includes animal weigh-scales, electronic identification (EID) readers, data-logging devices, intrinsically safe mining products, and high-security products such as access control readers.

Exposure to high-security product development has given Samuel experience with data manipulation, cryptography, and complex software algorithms.

Experience

Samuel joined James & Wells from Gallagher Group Ltd where his role of Senior Electronics Engineer saw him developing many products including animal weigh-scales, electronic identification (EID) readers and security access control readers. Samuel also worked on a variety of intellectual property matters at Gallagher.

His thesis centred on the design and development of impulse regeneration technology to extend the working range of electric fence networks, and advanced electric fence fault finding equipment using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR).

Sam is an experienced game developer with specialist expertise in the unique intellectual property needs of the gaming industry.

Samuel is an experienced game developer and has a unique insight on the intellectual property issues the gaming sector faces. From his humble beginnings making levels in Duke Nukem 3D, mini-games and utilities in flash, Java and C#, through to his more recent experience developing on the Unity engine, Sam has years of experience playing, tinkering with and designing software and video games. He helps businesses across New Zealand and Australia protect and grow their intellectual property, with specialist expertise in the unique intellectual property needs of the gaming industry.
