Domain names protect your business

Your domain name is where customers find you, buy from you and decide whether they trust you. The right portfolio protects revenue, customer relationships and reputation. A single gap can give a competitor, scammer or opportunist a direct route to your market.

Most domain problems stay invisible until they start costing your business. A lookalike site may collect orders meant for you. A competitor may advertise against your brand name. A critical domain may lapse because the renewal notice went to an old email address. By then, recovering lost ground is slower and more expensive than protecting it would have been.

Whether you are launching a new brand, entering a new market or managing a global portfolio, the aim is the same: invest where it matters and avoid paying later to recover ground that should have been protected from the outset. Our domain name specialists, trade mark experts and litigators work as one team to protect anything from a single domain name to a global portfolio.

We register the names that matter, monitor for misuse and act decisively when problems arise.

Protect the names your business depends on

A strong domain strategy starts with the business plan, not a list of available extensions. The names that matter are the ones that protect your key brands, products and trading identities, prioritised by market, customer behaviour, competitor activity, expansion plans and risk. Gaps tend to appear in predictable places:

  • you enter a new market or launch a product or campaign before securing the relevant domains, or a competitor moves first;
  • common misspellings and relevant country extensions are left open for someone else to register;
  • domain names are not aligned with your trade mark portfolio, so protection is patchy; and
  • ownership, access, renewal and registrar details are inconsistent or out of date, putting important domains at risk.

We identify the domain names and extensions that matter to your business, check availability and potential conflicts, secure registrations before you commit, and manage renewals through reliable systems.

A commercially focused portfolio protects the value that matters without adding unnecessary cost or clutter.

Find threats before your customers do

Registering the obvious domain names is only the first layer of protection. Misuse is not limited to exact copies of your trade mark. It can appear in lookalike domains, paid search advertisements, online marketplaces, app stores and website content.

Left unchecked, misuse can divert enquiries and sales, confuse customers, enable fraud or counterfeiting, weaken trust and make enforcement more expensive. Our monitoring services provide early warning, giving you more options and a better chance of containing the harm. We tailor the scope to your risk profile and can monitor:

  • new domain registrations and deceptive spelling variants;
  • web content and unauthorised brand use;
  • sponsored search and keyword advertising;
  • marketplaces, auction sites and counterfeit listings;
  • app stores and digital platforms; and
  • dark web sources, where the risk justifies targeted searches.

Early warning protects sales, customer trust and your options for acting before the harm spreads.

We provide tailored monitoring reports at the frequency and scope your business needs. These assess each alert, filter out the noise and explain what needs attention. Where action is required, we recommend a proportionate response, from preserving evidence and requesting a takedown to formal enforcement.

Fix the weak points inside your business

Many domain problems arise inside the business. A critical name may be registered by an employee or supplier. Renewal notices may go to an old email address, access credentials may be lost, or a new product may launch before clearance and protection are complete.

Good controls reduce operational risk, support faster launches and make it easier to respond when something goes wrong. You should know who owns each domain, who can change it and when it renews. Your teams should know what to do and who to call when a problem arises. Reviewing your trade mark and domain portfolios together also helps protection keep pace with new brands, products and markets.

Clear ownership, reliable renewals and prepared teams keep critical domain names from becoming operational risks.

We help legal, marketing, IT and leadership teams reduce operational risk through domain audits, tailored policies and practical training, delivered in person or online.

Recover control of a domain that trades on your name

When another party controls a domain that trades on your name or reputation, delay can compound the damage. Customers may be redirected, and orders, enquiries or data may be captured. In serious cases, the dispute may lead to compensation claims, corrective action or court orders affecting how your own site operates.

There are many ways to resolve a domain name problem without going straight to court. Depending on the facts, we may investigate ownership and use, preserve evidence, send cease-and-desist correspondence, seek registrar or platform action, negotiate a transfer or acquisition, file an administrative domain name complaint or commence court proceedings.

Stop the harm. Recover control. Protect your commercial position.

Which process applies depends on the extension

Our team handles disputes across country-code and international extensions, working with trusted local specialists where needed. Each extension has its own recovery process. Our experience includes the following procedures, among others:

  • .au and .com.au: the .au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP), administered by auDA and typically conducted through Resolution Institute;
  • .nz and .co.nz: the Dispute Resolution Service (DRSNZ), operated by the New Zealand Dispute Resolution Centre;
  • .uk: Nominet’s Dispute Resolution Service (DRS);
  • .us: the usDRP, administered by the ADR Forum;
  • .cn: the CNNIC Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (CNDRP), through approved providers including WIPO;
  • .in: the .in Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (INDRP), administered by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI);
  • .eu: the Czech Arbitration Court or WIPO;
  • .fr: AFNIC’s SYRELI procedure or the PARL EXPERT procedure (AFNIC and WIPO);
  • .com, .net, .org and other gTLDs, and country extensions that have voluntarily adopted the UDRP (such as .co): WIPO or other approved UDRP providers; and
  • court proceedings, where an administrative procedure is not available or appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a domain strategy if I already own the main .com, .com.au or .co.nz address?
Usually, yes. A core address may not protect new markets, product names, common misspellings or other extensions customers expect to find. We assess the commercial risk and recommend a proportionate portfolio rather than registering everything.

Can I recover a domain name registered by someone else?
Possibly. The best route depends on the extension, the registrant’s rights or legitimate interests, how the domain is being used and the available evidence. We can assess the position and recommend negotiation, a formal domain name procedure, court action or another targeted response.

Can I recover a .com.au domain name that has been registered in bad faith?
Possibly. Disputes over .au and .com.au domain names are handled under the .au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP), typically through Resolution Institute. The outcome depends on your rights, how the domain was registered and used, and the evidence available. We can assess whether your case qualifies and represent you through the process.

Can I recover a .co.nz domain name that has been registered in bad faith?
Possibly. Disputes over .nz and .co.nz domain names are handled through the Dispute Resolution Service (DRSNZ), operated by the New Zealand Dispute Resolution Centre. The outcome depends on your rights, how the domain was registered and used, and the evidence available. We can assess whether your case qualifies and represent you through the process.

Why combine domain name and trade mark advice?
A domain registration does not give the same rights as a trade mark, and owning a trade mark does not automatically secure every related domain. Looking at both together helps close protection gaps, reduce conflict risk and strengthen your position if enforcement is needed.

Can you manage an international domain portfolio?
Yes. We help local and international clients register, review, monitor and manage portfolios across multiple jurisdictions, supported by portfolio technology and a trusted international network.

What happens when monitoring identifies a threat?
We assess the alert in context, explain the likely commercial impact and recommend a proportionate next step. That may be continued monitoring, evidence preservation, a takedown, correspondence, an administrative complaint or court proceedings.

What is the difference between a domain name watch and a trade mark watch?
A domain name watch monitors new domain name registrations that may infringe your brand. It complements, but is separate from, a trade mark watch, which monitors new trade mark applications. Many of our clients run both.
