We are delighted to announce promotions within the James & Wells’ team!
Richard Clement has been promoted to Special Counsel in the Patents Team, James Rowland has been promoted to Senior Associate in the Litigation and Commercial Team and Brianna Hunt has been promoted to IP Assistant.
Managing Partner, Tim Walden, said of each:
“Richard joined James & Wells in 2016 as a Senior Associate and has been an integral part of our patent practice ever since. With over 25 years of experience as a patent attorney, and having qualified as a lawyer in 2013, Richard brings a rare blend of technical expertise and legal insight to the firm.
Richard exemplifies the values of James & Wells through his collaborative spirit, technical excellence, and unwavering commitment to the firm. Whether it is understanding the intricate workings of a device, navigating patent procedural matters or discussing esoteric aspects of claim interpretation, Richard is always happy to provide useful input. This promotion acknowledges his outstanding contributions and positions him to continue making a significant impact.”
“James has been a valued member of James & Wells since 2018, starting as a Solicitor in the litigation team and advancing to Associate in 2021. Over the past seven years, he has consistently demonstrated excellence in legal practice and client management. James also draws on three and a half years of experience as Judges Clerk for the Hamilton District Court, where he developed strong research skills.
Beyond his legal prowess, James is known for his dry wit, collaborative spirit, failed cricket career, and obsession of Kendrick Lamar / The Mountain Goats. He has the unique ability to make even the most complex legal discussions engaging. He’s the kind of colleague who can deliver a compelling presentation on competition law—and still find time to help win a bar tab at quiz night. We’re still waiting for him to beat Adrian at bowling, though. James’s promotion reflects his consistent performance, valued contribution, and commitment to the firm.”
“Brianna [Bri] continues to serve as Office Administrator, but has steadily expanded her responsibilities, now providing direct support to Kanako Tanaka, our newest Patent Executive. Since joining James & Wells in March 2024, Bri has shown initiative and an increasing contribution to the firm.
Bri’s promotion reflects her dedication, initiative, and the positive energy she brings to the team. We’re excited to see her continue to thrive in this new role.”
