About Jenny

Dr. Jenny Chien joined the Auckland Patents team in 2019 after working as a Research Associate at the University of Auckland’s Leukaemia & Blood Cancer Research Unit. Jenny has a Ph.D. in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University and a BSc with Honours in Biochemistry from National University of Singapore.

Jenny has worked on the development of novel gene therapy at the National Cancer Centre of Singapore, the characterisation of novel SARS viral proteins at Singapore’s Institute of Molecular & Cell Biology, and the development of Next Generation Sequencing for clinical diagnostics at Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. Her Ph.D investigated bacterial cell size regulation as a model for cancer biology. After the completion of her Ph.D, Jenny took on the role as an intellectual property consultant for life sciences clients in Taiwan for three years.

Jenny has started studying towards her Trans-Tasman Patent Attorney Registration. She is proficient in Mandarin and English. Her knowledge and skills give her the ability to advise in relation to medical and biological technologies. Jenny’s work focuses on assisting the team with patent prosecution, drafting patent specifications, patent searching and patent landscaping.

Outside of work, Jenny likes to read, hike, travel and watch movies.
